The small beach at Canavial and the larger beach at Porto do Mos are 10 minutes walk and there are two excellent, friendly and reasonably priced restaurants at Porto do Mos beach. The beach at Porto do Mos has a blue flag and is on the route of the coastal path which connects Lagos with the much-photographed beach of Praia da Dona Ana and Ponte da Piedade and Praia da Luz. The coastal path wends its way along the cliff tops and beaches along the south and west coast for hundreds of miles and has amazing sea views in the very natural terrain. There is a handy supermarket and other restaurants 10 minutes walk from the villa and also tennis courts. A large Intermarche supermarket and petrol station are 3 minutes drive away. ...the departure point of the famous 15th Century voyages of discovery to the New World, and that began an important period of trade with the importation of precious metals and gems and spices. The old defensive town walls are still intact, as is the fort and many other historic buildings. Inside the town walls is a myriad of winding streets that are lined with shops, restaurants and cafe bars, many spilling out onto the street. There is a large daily fish market in a quayside building, and a weekly farmers market. The quayside promenade is lined with palms and makes a pleasant walk, and you can cross the river using the cute pedestrian bridge to the marina, fishing harbour and Meia Praia beach, a 4 km long stretch of sandy beach. Lagos Zoo is a popular day out with children, and there are several water parks within 40 minutes drive.
The villa is located close to Boa Vista Golf resort and there are several other excellent golf courses nearby, including the golf links at Palmares and Espiche Golf.
Water-based activities and surfing are available at the beach and diving, fishing and dolphin and caving trips can be arranged locally. There are several water parks and ZooMarine about 45 minutes drive along the coast, and bus tours can be booked locally if you do not wish to drive.
Also on offer locally is tennis, horse-riding, cycling and there are two health spas close to the villa.
The rugged coastal track is a must for walkers who are rewarded with fantastic sea and clifftop views both to the east in the direction of Ponte da Piedade and Lagos and to the west to Praia da Luz and beyond.
Porto do Mos beach is long and sandy and has Blue Flag status and it is 10 minutes walk from the villa. There are two excellent, friendly and reasonably priced restaurants beside the beach and there are other restaurants from 10 minutes walk in the direction of Lagos and Praia da Dona Ana with its famous yellow cliffs.
The beautiful town of Lagos is about 5 minutes by car from the villa, where you will find a super paved promenade by the waterfront with a cute pedestrian bridge to the marina. There is also a small ferryboat which plies to and fro all day across the river from the promenade to Meia Praia beach. Lagos has a fort, old churches and the intact ancient city walls still protect the bustling little narrow streets and squares filled with shops, cafe bars and restaurants.
There is a regular bus service that connects Porto do Mos with Lagos, Meia Praia, Praia da Luz and other nearby towns.
If all of that sounds too energetic then you can stay all day just relaxing by the pool, reading a favourite book with a glass of wine and make the difficult choice which of the great restaurants to eat in later on!
Most guests fly to Faro Airport which is a simple 1 hour drive from the villa, mostly on the A22 motorway.
From Lisbon it is 3 hours on the quiet A2 motorway.
