There’s no shortage of high quality beaches either. Sandy stretches as far as the eye can see, framed by golden cliffs, virtually deserted islands marking the boundary between Ria Formosa and the sea, and small coves sheltered by the rocks. The ocean, in every shade of blue and mostly calm and warm, invites you for long swims and to indulge in water sports.
And there are also the mountains, where people live in harmony with nature and maintain traditions that they love to share. And the cities. Silves preserves traces of its Arab past and Lagos from the time of the Discoveries. More cosmopolitan Portimão and Albufeira are bustling towns by night and day. Tavira is a showcase for traditional architecture and Faro, the gateway to the region, deserves a long stop to discover its beautiful historic centre.
To relax, you can have various treatments in the spas and thalassotherapy centres and in the Monchique Thermal Baths. There are also many internationally acclaimed golf courses where you can enjoy a spot of exercise. And hotels, tourist villages, resorts, from the simplest to the most sophisticated. In short, a varied array sharing a genuine love for hospitality.
You can use footpaths and cycle trails to get to know the region, such as the Algarve Way inland or the Vicentine Route along one of the best preserved coastal stretches. And boat rides are another ecological way to observe the flora and fauna.
At the table, you will be delighted with the fresh fish and seafood, either grilled or in a casserole. These are divine flavours which you can enjoy on a simple beach terrace or in the most refined Michelin-starred restaurants, where chefs turn out new versions of traditional cuisine. ATTRACTIONS
Slide and Splash, near Lagoa, is about 20 minute drive from the Apartment, and Zoomarine with dolphins and amusements, near Guia, about 35 minute drive, are wonderful family entertainment.
GOLF
You are spoilt for choice but here are some to consider within a 30 minute drive of the Apartment. Alto Golf and Country Club has its own Championship Golf Course - Alto Golf. This was the last 18 hole course to be designed by the late Sir Henry Cotton and guests enjoy preferential rates. Penina, Palmares, Morgado and Boavista are within half an hours drive. Discounted golf rates can be arranged through reception.
Alvor town offers a great choice of restaurants; from classic Portuguese with fresh fish being cooked on open BBQ's in the harbour area, to family restaurants catering for all tastes and budgets.
There is a good mix of bars to keep all age groups entertained and for an even more lively night Praia de Rocha is only a taxi ride away – and at reasonable fares.
ALVOR:
Alvor's main beach is only 10 minutes walk from the apartment at Alto Club. It is a very long sandy beach spreading for miles in either direction – Even in the height of summer there is always plenty of space available. Free sunbeds are also available on the beach near Restinga for Alto Club Residents. There is also a beautiful board walk along the beach bringing you from the town all the way into the caves.
The beach restaurants are also excellent for lunch and evening meals!
The area offers many golf courses, including Penina, Alto Golf Club Portugal, Palmares, Pinta, Gremacho, Morgado – all within a short driving distance. More courses are also being added including the new Nick Faldo and Christy O'Connor courses at the Amendoeira Golf Resort.
On the West side of Alvor the Ria de Alvor enters into the bay of Lagos. This is a vast estuary which stretches inland and is separated from the sea by an expanse of sand dunes.
Faro Airport is 45 minutes by car. Airport transportation can be arranged. A taxi is €60 from the airport to the resort.
The gardens are shared with owners of the house. There is no private garden as such with this property. But there is a big balcony with table and chairs and 2 sun loungers. The balcony can be accessed from sliding doors from the living room and also from the master bedroom. There is both an outdoor swimming pool and a heated indoor pool.
There is both indoor and outdoor pool. The indoor pool is heated all year around and the outdoor pool also has a kids pool area for young babies.
The resort boasts tennis courts where you can rent equipment from reception
There is also an indoor gymnasium with adequate equipment
